Palo Alto Bed and Breakfast: Puerto Princesa's Peaceful Sanctuary

Last April, I managed to bag two round-trip tickets to Palawan from AirAsia. I was stoked! The tickets cost only Php 1700 both ways for two people! It was definitely a steal!

About a week before our planned flight, I was scouting Agoda on my iPad and I found Palo Alto's listing on the app. It was affordable and had great reviews. Also the facilities and services were superb for its price range. I was already sold then. I showed the pictures to Peter and he gave his approval as well. We paid through the app by credit card and confirmed our booking with Palo Alto through phone.

Since the hotel provides free shuttle service to and from the airport, I arranged for us to be fetched a week before our flight. We just informed them of our date and time of arrival and it was all set!

Located approximately 5 kilometers from Puerto Princesa Airport, we were able to get to the place without any hassle. The hotel's shuttle was already waiting for us when we arrived. The driver was kind enough to offer us umbrellas on our way to the van since it was lightly raining when we got there. Throughout the drive to the hotel, he got us acquainted with the places-to-be, the main roads of the city and also gave us tips and information about the immediate area. He was very knowledgeable and accommodating.

I was overcome with the feeling of peace when we arrived. I could not believe this place was located in the middle of the busy city! It was very peaceful, the air was also very clean. There were a lot of trees and flowers, but the place was also kept very tidy. We were led to the receiving area where we were greeted with warm smiles and welcome drinks. Afterwards, we were led to our room located at the second floor.

I thought the net above the bed was quite fancy, it gave the room a nice, distinguished feel. There was air conditioning, cable TV, safety deposit box, mini bar, electric kettle and a telephone. There were no cabinets there, only bars and hooks with hangers for you to organize your clothing. Counter tops and tables were strategically placed throughout the room for bags and other items that need storage. The bathroom had water heating facilities, towels, shampoos and soaps ready for use.

After catching up on a few hours of sleep, we proceeded to their restaurant which was just adjacent to our sleeping quarters.

They have a telescope in case guests want to go gazing during the night. How cool is that!

The stairs leading to the restaurant was built around that huge tree branch. I love that they chose to keep the tree and make it a part of the building itself.

That tree bark is huge! It's nice how they built the entire place without compromising nature. Also, it gives the whole place a very homey, safe feel.

This little area in the middle of the main building is actually the smoking area. Didn't stop us from taking pictures here though. Too inviting!

In the afternoon, we decided to take a dip in their outdoor pool. It was located right in front of the hotel's receiving area. We had to cross a very short distance to get to the pool area which was also where the recreational venues were located.

I love the whole East Asian design of the area. Made me feel like we were vacationing somewhere outside the country. Also, there were nets placed above the pool to protect it from the falling leaves from the trees surrounding it.

Here is a video of the pool area:

After sunset, the place was lit with tiny star lanterns and and accent lights. It gave the place a very ethereal feel.

Overall, my experience with staying at Palo Alto Bed and Breakfast is truly an amazing and unforgettable one. Never have I stayed in a place so in tune with nature combined with a respectful and courteous staff. It was an amazing 3 days and 2 nights stay in this sanctuary. Checking in and out was a breeze, and whenever we had inquiries or needed anything, they were always more than willing to accommodate us.

This place is the best choice for those who want to take a break from the busy big cities. The air was very clean as was the place itself, and although it was fifteen minutes away from the malls, everything we needed was already there.

Truly, this place made our Palawan trip all that more wonderful. It is a place one with nature.

Palo Alto offers free shuttle service to and from the city. Every 6PM, guests will be dropped off to their preferred destination at Rizal Avenue. Then at 9PM, the shuttle will wait for the guests at ABCD Convenience store (also located at Rizal Avenue) for a rendezvous with the other guests and then leave for the hotel together.

They also organize tour packages, van rentals, reservations and coordinate with agencies in case guests want to visit the Underground River, go island hopping, or make their own tour itineraries.
